CITIZEN KHAN

BBC1 hit Citizen Khan returns to our screens for a second series this year.

This modern family sitcom set in a Pakistani Muslim household in Sparkhill, Birmingham, follows the trials and tribulations of self-appointed Muslim community leader Mr Khan (Adil Ray) and his long-suffering family, including his house-proud and much put-upon wife Mrs Khan (Shobu Kapoor) (EastEnders). Maya Sondhi and Bhavna Limbachia play his feisty daughters, Shazia and Alia; and Abdullah Afzal (Lunch Monkeys) portrays Amjad, Shazia's handsome but dim fiancée.

Mr Khan is a larger than life character, with strong opinions and big dreams facing the challenges of many families - how to make ends meet, keep his family happy and impress the neighbours! Things would be so much easier if everyone just listened to him and followed his lead, but his family and friends usually have other ideas...

Created by Adil Ray, Mr Khan has already featured in BBC Two comedy series Bellamy's People and on Radio Four's Down the Line. Mr Khan also hosted his own web series for the BBC Comedy website, in which he covered a variety of topics including the General Election, cricket and even delivered his own Christmas message to the nation.

Citizen Khan is written by Adil Ray, Anil Gupta and Richard Pinto (The Kumars at No 42, Goodness Gracious Me, Fresh Meat).

Homeboys is written by hot new writer Pete Jackson, and directed by Michael Lembeck (Friends, Everybody Loves Raymond, Mad About You).

Homeboys centres around a dysfunctional family living in Manchester – Terry and Eileen are trying to get their lives back by getting their 20something sons to finally leave home. But David and Brian have other plans, despite their parents’ best efforts to get rid of them. David is a cocky damp-proofing salesman who thinks he’s a big shot (but who still loves having his pants washed by his mum), and Brian is an agoraphobic who hasn’t left the house since he was eight and spends a lot of time under the kitchen table. Add Janine, their spiteful younger sister to the mix, and their parents’ dream of a quiet life looks more and more unlikely…although they’d secretly miss all the mayhem their kids cause if they ever did leave home!

Growing up is never easy, especially when you’re in charge.

Mummy's Boys follows Dan (25) and Toby (22) as they struggle to bring up their younger brother Jamie (13).

When their mother passes away, Dan and Toby become surrogate parents for their little brother Jamie. Dan is anxious and a little uptight, a sarcastic joker who would do anything for his brothers. He does his best to give morose little Jamie the upbringing he deserves, but Toby isn’t going to make it easy. A naïve sweetheart with an eye for the ladies, Toby is as far from a responsible adult as you can be. His current projects include persuading Jamie’s beautiful school teacher Miss Pemberton to sleep with him a second time and bringing the cape back to the modern wardrobe.

Will the boys get nagging aunt Debbie off their backs, by proving they can keep Jamie alive? Will Dan ever figure out where he stands with his sexy livewire boss Poppy? And will Toby get through the day without burning the flat down? One thing is for sure: the boys will have to rely on each other since, well, that’s all they’ve got.
